Critical Date for ITIN Bill Coming Up: June 16

There us a deadline coming up for this bill, 6/16! It is highly important that this bill makes it out of the Revenue committee -- so we are going to do a push, in conjunction with the reps who co-sponsored the bill, Rep. Christine Barber and Rep. Tricia Farley-Bouvier.

The ask is this, contact your House representative(s) this week with this message. Feel free to cut and paste the ask below into an email to your representative! Then let me know who you've touched base with, either by responding to this email OR by bcc'ing me on your email to your rep.

Dear Representative _______:

It is vitally important for Massachusetts to treat taxpayers who have paid their taxes using an Individual Taxpayer Identification Number with fairness.  Like many of our government's policies that devalue the worth of people of color and have contributed to police injustices, policies like the stimulus provisions of the CARES Act that discriminate against taxpaying families because they are immigrants devalue the worth of people in our communities and should be rectified at the state level!

The bill (House 4726) is now before the Revenue Committee and the committee's deadline to report it is Tuesday, 6/16. We need House leadership to know that passing this bill is important to you.  For your convenience, here are the email addresses for the Speaker, HWM Chair Michlewitz and House Revenue Chair Cusack.  Please contact these House leadership members today to express your support for House 4726.

Speaker DeLeo (Robert.DeLeo@mahouse.gov), HWM Chair Michlewitz (Aaron.M.Michlewitz@mahouse.gov)  and Revenue Chair Cusack  (Mark.Cusack@mahouse.gov

Thank you.

To aid your advocacy, MassBudget released another report that clearly articulates the need for this bill and details the hardships our immigrant communities are facing. It's attached, or you can find the article here. Additionally, attached is the Globe editorial that I previously shared and two wonderful letters to the editor from some of your fellow coalition members, De Novo and AILA NE.
